Suspect arrested in home invasion targeting vulnerable people

One of two suspects being sought for an alleged home invasion that targeted vulnerable people with a history of mental illness has been arrested and charged, Toronto police say.

Said Egal, 19, of Toronto, was charged after a search warrant was conducted and items purchased with the victim’s credit card were recovered, police said Friday. He faces two counts of robbery, weapon dangerous and property obtained by crime.

There is a Canada-wide arrest warrant for the second suspect, identified as Jennifer Mulumba, 27, of Toronto.

The two are accused of breaking into a community housing apartment at 184 Harbord St. on July 30. Egal allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and pressed it against a 57-year-old resident’s neck, demanding his wallet.

A neighbour who heard a scream from the home tried to help but was punched in the nose and robbed of a necklace as the suspects fled the building.
