Police investigate after vases stolen from Whitby cemetery

Police in Durham Region are investigating after hundreds of bronze vases were stolen from a cemetery in Whitby.

The thefts are said to have taken place between the evening of Aug. 26 and Sept. 11.

Police say approxinately 250 vases, priced at about $150 per vase, were stolen from burial sites at Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens.

“It is a situation that’s very delicate and very upsetting of course to families, “Sgt. Nancy Van Rooy told CityNews.

The vases are individually owned and police say some people may be unaware the vases may have been stolen.

No suspect description has been released.

Police are asking anyone who may have information on the theft to contact them.
