National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run begins Thursday

Hundreds of police officers will run from Toronto to Ottawa beginning Thursday to remember fallen officers and to raise funds for their families.

The National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run lasts three days and covers 460 kilometres. Since 2005, $95,850 in donations have been raised.

An officer who nearly died last spring in a half-marathon is participating in the ninth-annual relay.

Toronto police Const. Andrew Rosbrook collapsed during the Toronto Marathon on May 5.

“When I woke up in the hospital, it was one of the first things I decided: I was going to continue to run,” Rosbrook said.

The memorial run will leave Queen’s Park around 9 a.m.
