Drake thrills fans at Toronto record store appearance

Fans lined up bright and early on Friday morning to meet their hip hop hero, Drake.

The Toronto rapper was signing autographs at the downtown HMV on Queen Street west of University Avenue at 6 p.m.

“I’ve been sleeping on the floor for like 13 hours,” Kourosh Abed said outside the store.

“I’m a big-time fan.”

He and dozens of others were waiting to receive a wristband that would let them attend a later event.

The first 300 customers to buy Drake’s new album Nothing Was the Same on Friday received a wristband to the rapper’s meet-and-greet. Fans who had already bought the album were able to line up with their receipt.

Ashley Nazir was first in line and said it was all about giving back.

“Drake is a really good artist and his music is really versatile. Not only does he represent Toronto, he gives back to his fans and I feel like his fans should give back to him,” she said.
