Weekend road closures in Toronto

It’s that time of the year again, when weekend events and construction take over Toronto, leading to road closures across the city.

Here are the road closures for Oct. 4-6:

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche (Friday-Sunday closures)
The art event takes place from sunset Oct. 5 to sunrise Oct. 6. The following road closures will be in effect:

  • Northbound University Ave., between Richmond and College streets, and Queen’s Park Cres. E., between College and Charles streets, will be closed from Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. Oct. 6 at 9 a.m.
  • Bay St., between Wellington St. and Dundas St. W., will be closed from Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. to Oct. 6 at 10 a.m.
  • Queen St. W., between Victoria St. and University Ave., will be closed from Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. to Oct. 6 at 8 a.m.
  • King St. W., between Yonge and Peter streets will be closed from Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. to Oct. 6 at 9 a.m.

The following transit changes will be in effect:

  • King St. streetcars will be diverted to Queen St. via Spadina Ave. and Church St.
  • Subways on the Bloor-Danforth line will run all night from Keele St. to Woodbine Ave.
  • Subways on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway will run all night from St. Clair Ave W. to Eglinton Ave.
  • GO transit will be providing extra late-night service

CIBC Run for the Cure (Sunday closure)
The run will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 6.

The following road closures will take place on Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.:

  • Queen’s Park Cres. E. & Queen’s Park Cres. W.
  • Hart House Circle
  • Wellesley St. W., between Hart House Circle and Queen’s Park Cres. E.
  • University Ave., between Queen’s Park Cres. E. and Queen’s Park Cres. E, and Armoury St.
  • Queen’s Park, between Queen’s Park Cres. E. and Queen’s Park Cres. E., and Bloor St.
  • Bloor St. W., between Queen’s Park and St. George St.
  • St. George St., between Bloor St. W. and College St.
  • College St., between St. George St. and King’s College Rd.
  • King’s College Rd, between College St. and King’s College Circle
  • Tower Road
  • Hoskin Ave., between Tower Rd. and St. George St.

Fire Fighters Memorial (Sunday closure)
The Toronto Professional Fire Fighters Association’s annual memorial will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 6. in the parkette to the east of Queen’s Park Crescent.

The following road closures will be in effect on Oct. 6:

  • Queen’s Park Cres. E., from Grosvenor to College streets, from 12:25 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Northbound College St. curb lane, from east of Queen’s Park Cres. to Bay St., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Construction work

Major Mackenzie Drive lane restriction
Major Mackenzie Dr. in Richmond Hill will be restricted to one lane in each direction between Bayview Ave. and Leslie St. from Sept. 26 to Oct. 5 due to road repair work.

King St. E. bridge repairs
The King St. E. section of the bridge — that carries Queen St. E. across the Don River and Don Valley Parkway — will be closed starting Sept. 9 for repairs. The bridge repairs are expected to be completed in November.

The 503 Kingston Rd. and 504 King streetcars will be on diversion.

Yonge Street watermain replacement
Construction is underway on Yonge Street in North York for watermain replacement work.

During phase one of the project, the southbound curb lane on Yonge between Finch and Kingsdale avenues will be closed. Click here for more details.

Kingston Road construction
Drivers can expect slowdowns in the Kingston Road and Victoria Park Avenue area due to a TTC track reconstruction. Click here for the full story.
