Daily Bread Food Bank and City are once again teaming up for a fall food drive.
On Wednesday, Breakfast Television’s Jenn Valentyne and Frank Ferragine were at the Loblaws on Musgrave Street, near Danforth and Victoria Park avenues, to collect donations.
“We need nutritious food, things like canned fish or meat,” Daily Bread executive director Gail Nyberg said Wednesday.
“Pasta, pasta sauce, rice, beans, lentils – we’re always looking for baby food and diapers too.”

The drive began at 5:30 a.m. Everyone who donates at the Loblaws will be entered to win one of several prizes, including a men’s Bulova watch and a $250 gift card from The Shopping Channel.
Last year, more than a million people used food banks in the Greater Toronto Area. It was the fifth straight year of of similar numbers, according to an annual report by the Daily Bread Food Bank.
“These numbers only show those who actually come to a food bank when they can’t afford food,” Nyberg said in the report. “It’s been previously shown that for every person who comes there is at least one other very hungry person who cannot afford food who does not come.”
