2 critical, including child, after multi-vehicle crash in King Township

An eight-year-old child is in critical condition – one of 12 people injured in a multi-vehicle crash in King Township Thursday night, York police tell CityNews.

Two other children, aged 2 and 12, were also injured. All three children were in the same car.

Police say four vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction crash on King Road, near Bathurst Street. A witness told CityNews a car inexplicably veered into oncoming traffic.

“I just saw a black car coming at oncoming traffic,” said Bruno Morgado, who stopped to help the injured children, one of whom was ejected. “I thought he was going to turn, but he kept coming and that’s when he hit the other car.”

Police said the driver of the black car was also taken to hospital in critical condition. It’s not yet known why he drove into oncoming traffic.

OPP Sgt. Tim Kuttschrutter called the initial scene “sheer chaos” for the first arriving officers.

King Road was closed from Dufferin to Bathurst but has since reopened.
