5 arrested in recent GTA smash-and-grabs

Toronto police say they have arrested five people behind recent smash-and-grabs in the GTA.

The suspects, who were arrested on Oct. 3, face a total of 28 charges, including break-and-enter, possession of property obtained by crime and arson.

The alleged incidents happened last month at Sherway Gardens, the Prada store in Yorkville, a motorcycle shop in Peel region and auto shops in York Region.

On Aug. 30, police say, a group of men broke into six high-end auto shops in York region.

Then on Sept. 17, the suspects allegedly drove a stolen truck through an entrance to Sherway Gardens and into the Sporting Life store. It appears they loaded the truck with expensive clothes, but had to ditch everything and flee when the vehicle stalled.

The next day, the crew had better success, reportedly making off with a “large quantity” of goods after driving into Riders Choice, a motorcycle apparel store in Mississauga, and using a hammer to smash through the glass storefront of the Prada store on Bloor Street.

Stanislaw Sieczka, 37, Piotr Wroblewski, 34, and Sebastian Sapeta, 39, all of Toronto; Lalko Wojciech, 36, of Mississauga; and Tomasz Paliwoda, 30, of Brampton, appeared in court on Oct. 3.
