Cyclist dragged by truck near Dundas & Spadina

A cyclist is in life-threatening condition after she got caught in the wheels of a trailer near Dundas Street and Spadina Avenue on Wednesday morning.

The 25-year-old woman and the truck driver, a 50-year-old man, were both heading north on Spadina when the bike made contact with the trailer portion around 7:15 a.m.

The truck was in the right lane, while the cyclist was in the bike lane, Toronto police Sgt. Jeff Zammit said.

“It’s a designated lane; it’s marked as a bike lane, but it’s for both traffic and cyclists … they collided somehow and she got dragged underneath,” Zammit said.

She was pinned underneath the rear wheel area of the truck and later freed by emergency crews. Witnesses said her legs were caught in a wheel well.

The area was closed for the investigation.
