Toronto man arrested after suspicious package found on Parliament Hill

The RCMP has arrested a Toronto man after a suspicious package was found on Parliament Hill just before Wednesday’s throne speech.

The package was found at the Langevin Building, at 80 Wellington St., on Wednesday morning.

The building houses the Prime Minister’s Office.

A police robotics team was called in to dispose of a package.

Adjoining streets were blocked off and the building, which houses the working offices of the prime minister, was emptied.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper was not in the building at the time, and the disruption did not disturb the delivery of the government’s speech from the throne, marking the opening of a new session of Parliament.

Mohamoud Jimale, 45, is charged with uttering threats and mischief. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
