E. coli prompts 3rd beef recall in 3 weeks

Loblaw is warning its customers not to eat a certain brand of burgers sold in its stores — leading to the third beef recall in three weeks.

The company says the frozen Sunspun Bearpaw-shaped Beef Burgers may be tainted with E. coli.

They were sold in a 4.54-kilogram package (40 four-ounce patties) with the UPC 060383090524 and a best before date of Feb. 24, 2014.

The burgers, which Loblaw has removed from its stores, was sold in Ontario at Loblaws, nofrills, Real Canadian Superstore, Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs Markets, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Extra Foods, Fortinos, Freshmart, AXEP and Cash&Carry.

No one has reported becoming sick after eating the product.

“The health and safety of our customers is paramount to us and we are committed to providing our customers with a clean and safe store environment and offering products that are produced, sourced and handled responsibly,” Loblaw said in a statement.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is investigating.
