Quan officially accepts TDSB director position

Donna Quan is now officially the Director of Education for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB).

The 30-year veteran was voted in to the position by trustees during a meeting on Oct. 9.

Terms and final details of her position were then voted on and Quan officially accepted the position on Wednesday.

“I am honoured to have been selected by the Board to become Director of Education,” Quan said in a statement released by the TDSB. “I am committed to making my directorship one of action for students and communities.”

Quan took over the position as acting director of education in January when Chris Spence stepped down after admitting to plagiarizing parts of an opinion piece in The Toronto Star.

“Over the past several months, Donna has demonstrated that she is the right person for the Directorship,” said TDSB chair Chris Bolton. “I’m confident that she will do an excellent job in leading the Board forward.”

Quan has stressed her commitment to public education, fiscal accountability and moving forward with programs started under Spence’s watch.

She said she will be focusing on ‘ensuring the talent and experience of staff are developed and better focused to have a direct impact on students.”

Her contact has a term of four years.
