Ford to make announcement on Sunday radio show: Kelly

Mayor Rob Ford and his brother Coun. Doug Ford will still be hosting their weekly Toronto radio show Sunday, Newstalk 1010 program director Mike Bendixen confirmed on Twitter, despite calls for the mayor to step aside in the wake of accusations related to an alleged crack video.

Ford is expected to address some of those revelations during the radio show, the mayor’s office told CityNews on Saturday afternoon.

680News later spoke with deputy mayor Norm Kelly, who said Ford had “three major options.”

“I reviewed all the concerns that had been brought to my attention from members of council and residents of Toronto. We looked at the three major options and the mayor will be announcing his conclusion on his radio show.”

Kelly and the mayor met at the Scarborough Civic Centre. Kelly said he wouldn’t comment on what else was said during the meeting, as it was in camera and he wanted to respect the mayor’s confidence.

On last weekend’s edition of the radio show Ford spoke enthusiastically of campaigning in next year’s city election.

Toronto police Chief Bill Blair announced Thursday that police had found video images “which appear to be those images which were previously reported in the press.”

Police allege a friend of the mayor, Alexander Lisi, tried to get his hands on the video. He has been charged with extortion.

Ford said Thursday he could not comment because the matter is before the courts but said he sees “no reason to resign.”

After reports of the alleged video first surfaced in the Toronto Star and the U.S. website Gawker in May, the mayor said he does not use crack cocaine and that the video does not exist.
