Man dies during standoff with police in downtown

A man has died after during a standoff with police near Sherbourne and Wellesley streets, a source tells CityNews.
Paramedics told CityNews he was shot and pronounced dead in an ambulance on Wednesday afternoon, but it’s unclear whether he shot himself.
Our Lady of Lourdes elementary school on Sherbourne Street, near Wellesley, was in lockdown because of the standoff that began after noon.
The Toronto Catholic District School Board said the lockdown was a precautionary measure and everyone inside was safe.
The lockdown was lifted around 3 p.m. and all students were dismissed.
The name and age of the man has not been released.
The province’s special investigations unit is investigating.
