Pedestrian struck and killed at Yonge and Steeles

A 42-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a van at Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue, paramedics say.
The woman was attempting to cross from the north side of Steeles to the south side at the intersection around 3:20 p.m. Sunday when she was struck by a Dodge Ram and knocked onto the roadway, according to police.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the 30-year-old driver continued to drive for a short distance before he returned to the scene.
There has been no word on charges.
The intersection was closed for several hours while police investigate. It has since reopened.
