Lawyers argue for release of wiretaps related to Lisi

Lawyers representing a number of media organizations are in court Monday, arguing for the release of wiretap information linked to Mayor Rob Ford’s friend and part-time driver Alexander (Sandro) Lisi.

According to a portion of court documents released last week, Ford’s name was mentioned by alleged gang members whose phones were wiretapped by Toronto police during the guns-and-drugs probe Project Traveller last spring.

Superior Court Justice Ian Nordheimer ordered the disclosure of more previously redacted information last Wednesday, which revealed that Ford’s voice was not captured in the wiretapped phone calls.

Nordheimer heard further arguments on Monday on the disclosure of the wiretap information.

Lisi is facing charges for trafficking marijuana and extortion in relation to a video that allegedly shows Ford smoking crack cocaine.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
