Police ID man shot to death outside Rexdale community centre

Toronto’s latest murder victim was gunned down on the steps of a Rexdale community centre that was packed with spectators, including children, who were watching a basketball game on Sunday night.

Neeko Mitchell, 25, of Toronto, was there to watch his brother play in the game at North Kipling Community Centre, a friend told CityNews.

He stepped outside just after 8 p.m. and was shot several times.

The community centre, near Kipling and Finch avenues, is attached to North Kipling Junior Middle School.

“The sidelines were full and there were 50 to 60 people inside,” Dane Shaw told CityNews. “There was a lot of kids.”

Mitchell was rushed to hospital where he died a short time later, becoming the city’s 53rd murder victim of the year.  Police are trying to determine why he was targetted.

So far there’s no word on suspects.
