1 in 3 Canadians would take a pay cut to work from home

Many Canadians say they would take a pay cut or give up vacation days to work from home, according to the Rogers Connected Workplace report released on Wednesday.

One in three Canadians polled said they would give up something — like salary, vacation days or benefits — to not have to go into the office.

Still, the vast majority said salary and benefits, work-life balance, a good boss and vacation days were the most important factors in deciding to take their current position.

More than half (59 per cent) said when considering jobs in the future, they would factor in the ability to work outside of a traditional workplace and to have flexible hours. Many of those polled said they don’t have the resources or work for a company willing to make that a reality.

And although most employees use traditional devices like desktop computers and landlines, they would prefer to use laptops, tablets and smartphones in the future.

“It is clear that by making the shift to a more connected workplace, small and large businesses have an opportunity to influence productivity and drive innovation,” Steve Van Binsbergen, vice-president of the business segment at Rogers Communications, said in a release.

Rogers Communications is the parent company of City, CityNews and CityNews.ca.
