Police shoot man in downtown highrise

The Special Investigations Unit has been called in after police shot a man downtown.

It happened around 2 a.m. Saturday on the fourth floor of a highrise on Mutual Street, near Gerrard and Jarvis.

Paramedics said the man, who is 34 years old, was taken to St. Michael’s Hospital in serious condition.

The police watchdog says it has eight investigators on the case and they are interviewing the officer who fired the gun and five other officers who were at the scene.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency which investigates cases involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
