Visitation held for Toronto police officer Sunday

A public visitation for a Toronto police officer killed while on duty was held on Sunday ahead of Monday’s public memorial service.

Const. John Zivcic, 34, was responding to a call on Nov. 30 when his unmarked cruiser collided with another car at Bloor Street West and Neilson Drive, near Highway 427.

The officer, who worked in the force for six years, was taken to St. Michael’s Hospital where he died on Monday. He was Toronto’s 26th officer to die while on duty since the Toronto police force began in 1957.

Hours of visitation for Zivcic were from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Del Moro Funeral Home at 61 Beverly Hills Dr.

The police funeral with full honours is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Toronto Congress Centre at 650 Dixon Rd. Doors will open at 10 a.m. CityNews will be live streaming the ceremony.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Bocchinfuso Funeral Home in Thorold, Ont.

A private funeral will be held on Dec. 12 at St. Anthony Croatian Roman Catholic Church in Welland.
