Superstar Beyonce surprised her fans early Friday by releasing her fifth album exclusively on iTunes.
The singer’s first visual and self-titled album includes 14 new songs and 17 videos shot in Paris, Sydney, New York City and other places around the world.
Beyonce appeared on the iTunes website at 12 a.m. with a video teaser for the new album.
“I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it. I am bored with that,” Beyonce said in a press release.
“I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”
The album features four collaborations, including ones with Canadian rapper Drake, Frank Ocean and her husband, Jay Z, who pops up in the song Drunk In Love.
Beyonce also wrote the track Blue about her daughter Blue Ivy.
Facebook also exclusively premiered part one of Self-Titled, a mini documentary feature that gives a glimpse into the entire project.
The double disc CD/DVD set will be available in stores on Dec. 21. Click here for the track list.
