Justin Bieber tweets out retirement ahead of movie release

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber sent out a tweet announcing his retirement on Tuesday, the day before his latest documentary was released in theatres.

The news quickly spawned an outpouring of support from his fans – known as “beliebers” – who begged the star to keep making music. The hashtag #dontretire gained traction on Twitter and Bieber eventually responded, saying he would “never leave” his fans.

His latest documentary, Believe, opened on Christmas Day.

It’s not known if this is a publicity stunt tied to that movie or if this is a legitimate announcement. Earlier this month, he told an LA radio station he planned to retire, forcing his manager to quickly say that Bieber was just planning a short break in the new year.

Is Bieber’s retirement a Christmas miracle? Or is it coal in your stocking? Let us know in the comments.
