5 in hospital after east-end shooting & crash

Toronto police are investigating after a man was shot in the city’s east end and later involved in a multi-vehicle crash.

The shooting happened around 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the Hickory House Restaurant on McNicoll Avenue, near Finch Avenue East and Victoria Park Avenue.

The gunshot victim was fleeing the scene in a vehicle with four other men when the car crashed near Brimley Road and Lawrence Avenue East.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

The intersection was closed while police investigated but has since been reopened.

All five men were rushed to hospital with various non-life-threatening injuries, including broken bones and head injuries.

They are all expected to survive, including the man who was shot.

About 200 people were at the restaurant at the time of the shooting, but no witnesses have come forward.
