Weather likely a factor in GTA crashes

Weather was likely a factor in several crashes across the GTA on Monday morning.

A driver escaped with minor injuries after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 401 near Warden Avenue around 5 a.m.

The woman somehow lost control of her vehicle and rolled across the grass, ending up on the ramp from Warden to the Highway 401 eastbound.

Later, the southbound lanes of Highway 400 were closed south of Innisfil Beach Road in Innisfil due to a jackknifed tractor trailer.

Environment Canada had issued a flash freeze warning earlier on Monday, saying icy and slippery conditions were likely across Toronto.

The agency said as a period of snow, freezing rain and rain moves away from Toronto, it will drag a sharp Arctic cold front behind it, causing wet streets and sidewalks to freeze over. Motorists and pedestrians were urged to avoid travel because the flash freeze may have a significant impact on the morning commute.
