Toronto remains under extreme cold weather alert

Toronto remains under an extreme cold weather alert for a third day and almost 400 flights have been cancelled at Pearson International Airport.

Wednesday’s high is expected to be -9 C with wind chills near -18.  Overnight tonight temps will be falling to -13 C with a wind chill of -16, CityNews meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai said.

Some good news: Environment Canada has ended its wind chill warning for the GTA, and snow squalls off of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay are expected to diminish later Wednesday.

Snow squall warnings are still in effect for parts of southern Ontario, Environment Canada warned, and drivers should prepare for dangerous winter conditions.

Blowing snow will make it hard to see and near-zero visibility is expected in some areas.

Up to 15 additional centimetres of snow are possible before the squalls begin to weaken Wednesday evening.

The warning covers the following areas:

  • Niagara Falls-Welland-Southern Niagara Region
  • Bruce Peninsula-Sauble Beach-Tobermory
  • Port Carling-Port Severn
  • Bracebridge-Gravenhurst
  • Town of Parry Sound-Rosseau-Killbear Park
  • Huntsville-Baysville
  • Bayfield Inlet-Dunchurch
  • South River-Burk’s Falls
