Quebec man charged after fleeing crime, ramming cruiser near Guelph: OPP

A 33-year-old Quebec man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly fleeing a crime scene and colliding with an OPP cruiser soon after.

Police said just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, they stopped a driver going east in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Highway 6, south of Guelph. The driver tried to leave and crashed into the OPP cruiser.

Officers later linked the driver to a person found on the highway near Townline Road in Cambridge that morning. She is in hospital with serious injuries.

Derek Carroll has been charged with attempted murder and attempting to disarm a police officer.

He appeared in a Guelph court and remains in custody.
