Inquest to probe 2012 Toronto police shooting death

A provincial inquest will be held to investigate the 2012 shooting death of Peter Lumanglas.

Lumanglas, 38, was shot several times by a Toronto police officer after allegedly attacking Const. Jeff Blair during a traffic stop in North York.

Blair, who was stabbed in the neck, has recovered.

Police said the officer pulled over a vehicle for a traffic stop at Northmount and Delhi avenues, near Bathurst Street and Wilson Avenue, around 11 p.m. on April 15, 2012. Lumanglas died in hospital five days later, on April 20.

The inquest will begin on May 12.

The inquest is expected to last two weeks and to hear from approximately 15 witnesses. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
