More warrants sought in Rob Ford investigation: reports

Toronto police sought more warrants into an investigation surrounding Mayor Rob Ford, according to published reports.

Police applied for the warrants in 2013, the Globe and Mail reports. Officers were looking for cell phones and a computer.

The investigation, dubbed Project Brazen 2, probed reports of a video allegedly showing the mayor smoking crack cocaine. Ford’s friend and former part-time driver, Alexander Lisi, has been charged with extortion in relation to the video.

The warrant information was obtained by the newspaper’s media lawyer. Peter Jacobsen is one of many lawyers fighting to have the warrants unsealed and released to the public.

According to the paper, “the list of warrant applications also includes phone record requests for as recently as Jan. 14.”

The Toronto Star reports that police have also obtained a warrant for Lisi’s cell phone, the Star reports.

Lawyers are due back in court on March 5.
