GTA bride’s wedding invitations gets lost in the mail in midst of Canada Post delays

GTA bride-to-be Sandra Gilraine and her fiance Kirk Kirkland are getting married in April and mailed out their invitations six months ago. However, many of the invitees have yet to receive them in the mail.

“It has turned me into a little bit of a bridezilla because it so stressful,” Sandra Gilraine told CityNews.

The couple spent four figures on their invitations, and out of the 65 invitations Gilraine sent, only seven people received them after three weeks.

“It was embarrassing for us because we’d spent so much money on the postage and the invitations only to find that nobody ever got them,” she said.

She also said the invitations sent north of Highway 407 have yet to arrive.

“Funnily enough, Northern Ireland received their invitations about four days after we dropped them in the mailbox,” Gilraine said.

This latest mail incident is just one of hundreds of viewer complaints CityNews has received. Residents across Canada have been complaining of late bills and sporadic service.

CityNews took the complaints to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who was in Gormley, Ont., north of Toronto, on Thursday to announce a $14-billion infrastructure fund.

Reporter Amanda Ferguson asked Harper if the government had any plans to fix the problem.

He acknowledged that Canada Post is going through a period of transition.

“We know that Canada Post is undertaking some changes, some significant changes,” Harper said.

Harper said the Crown corporation is doing what needs to be done to trim costs as it faces losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

“We expect Canada Post to take the decisions necessary while maintaining essential service for those who still use mail — take the decisions necessary to protect Canadian taxpayers against those kinds of losses.”

However, that’s of little comfort to Gilraine, who said this is her “fairytale wedding.”

“We wrapped it in a doily, for crying out loud. So having something that was really vintage and really traditional, sending something out in the mail, having somebody open it and go ‘this is beautiful’ was really the introductory part of the entire them of our wedding, and it’s been nearly ruined,” she said.

Meanwhile, Officials with Canada Post insist they are not experiencing any delivery issues and that they continue to get mail out every single day across Canada, including the GTA. CityNews continues to be in touch with them.
