Interview: Mississauga mayor marks her 93rd birthday on Valentine’s Day

Not only is it Valentine’s Day on Friday, it is also Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion’s birthday.

680News political affairs specialist John Stall called the mayor this morning to deliver birthday greetings. She turns 93 years young.

“I say 39, but I guess it’s 93,” McCallion said.

“So, you are feeling good at 93?,” Stall asked.

“Oh, feeling wonderful. I don’t feel 93, I can tell you. Raring to go,” she said

McCallion has been the mayor of Mississauga for 36 years, but will not be running in the October 2014 municipal election.

“You could probably run another four years?,” Stall asked.

“I could, no question about it — I got other things to do,” she said.

“I want to do some things for municipalities and try to get them more jurisdiction, and certainly sustainable funding.”

McCallion will be celebrating her birthday by attending a party in her honour at the Walden Circle Retirement Community on Lakeshore Road West.
