Red carpet rolled out for 86th annual Academy Awards

The biggest sign that the entertainment industry’s biggest night isn’t far off is the roll-out of the red carpet for the 86th annual Academy Awards.

Shortly after dusk on Tuesday, crews unfurled the carpet along Hollywood Boulevard, which is in the slow process of being temporarily turned into the awards arrivals area. Nominees and other celebrities will make their long trek along the carpet and into the Dolby Theatre, running the gauntlet of hundreds of the world’s media outlets on Sunday.

An army of workers have been busy on the preparations for Oscars, which began this week with the construction of tents and bleachers. Approximately 1500 man hours are required to lay the 25,000 square feet of the regal rug.

This Oscars will hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.

The nine nominations for best picture are American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, Gravity, Her, Nebraska, Philomena, 12 Years a Slave and The Wolf of Wall Street.

William Butler, from Canadian band Arcade Fire, and local musician Owen Pallett were nominated for best original score for their work in Her.
