SIU probes quadruple stabbing in Hamilton

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a stabbing suspect was hurt while being chased by officers in Hamilton.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said just before 10 p.m. Saturday, police were flooded with 911 calls about a multiple stabbing at an apartment building near Parkdale Avenue and Barton Street, in the city’s east end.

Hamilton EMS said two of the victims — a 60-year-old woman stabbed in neck and a 37-year-old man with who had been stabbed several times — were taken to Hamilton General Hospital. Paramedics took two others to St. Joseph’s hospital for treatment of cuts on their hands.

While police were attending to the victims, witnesses pointed out the suspect, who then ran away.

Officers chased the man, and he was injured during the pursuit.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency which investigates cases involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
