The RCMP officer who stunned Robert Dziekanski with a Taser the night the Polish immigrant died at Vancouver’s airport is scheduled to stand trial for perjury Monday.
Const. Kwesi Millington was among four officers who confronted Dziekanski at the airport in October 2007, and the Mounties were later charged with perjury for their testimony at a subsequent public inquiry.
They’ve been accused of lying when they explained apparent discrepancies between what they wrote in their police notes and told investigators and what happened on an amateur video of the incident.
The Crown alleges the officers colluded to fake a story and then lied at the inquiry to cover it up.
Last year, a judge acquitted Const. Bill Bentley after concluding the Crown had failed to prove he lied at the inquiry or that the officers worked together on a story.
The judge in that case said there were other explanations for Bentley’s initial accounts of what happened and he also noted civilian witnesses told similar stories.
