Ground search continues for missing Whitby man

A ground search along Whitby’s shoreline will be conducted Monday afternoon after a shoe police believe belongs to a missing high school teacher was found there last week.

Jeffrey Boucher, 52, was reported missing by his family on Jan. 13 after the teacher, who is an avid runner, didn’t return home from a morning run.

Durham regional police say a woman contacted them last Tuesday after finding the shoe in Heydenshore Pavilion, which is a few kilometres south of Boucher’s home.

They will do a ground search of the shoreline near the pavilion in the afternoon. The area and the waters around the Whitby pier had previously been searched extensively by police, they said.

Investigators are also co-ordinating with the Toronto police marine unit for the use of their boat which is equipped with sonar technology. However, the use of the boat will depend on weather conditions, Durham police said.

An aerial search of the area where the footwear was found was done late Friday afternoon.

Boucher teaches at Bowmanville High School and is married with two daughters.
