Woman killed in Lake Simcoe crash was from Ukraine: police

A woman who was killed in a crash on Lake Simcoe on Sunday was from Ukraine, Durham regional police said Monday.

The 32-year-old woman was a passenger in the pickup truck when it flipped over near Thorah Island around 4:30 p.m.

Police said the driver was travelling on the frozen lake when he struck a break and lost control of the vehicle.

Four other people were injured. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Police said Monday they don’t believe anyone in the truck was wearing a seatbelt.

Two men who were seriously injured in the crash are expected to make a full recovery. A 51-year-old Richmond Hill man and a 42-year-old from North York are recovering in hospital.

The driver, a 27-yearold from North York, and a fourth passenger, a 40-year-old from Concord, had minor injuries. They were treated in hospital and released.

The investigation is ongoing.
