Maestro Fresh Wes to oversee Canadian citizenship ceremony

Maestro Fresh Wes will oversee a Canadian citizenship ceremony at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on Friday night.

“I’m bringing in 60 new Canadians from 23 different countries of origin,” Maestro told Breakfast Television.

“You’ve got people from Portugal, Ghana, Ukraine, Philippines, Vietnam. It’s a beautiful thing.”

The Canadian rapper and producer was selected by the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC) to give the keynote speech. The ceremony is a partnership between the ICC and Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

The ceremony is the final step in the process to becoming a Canadian citizen.

“It’s a blessing because it’s a defining moment,” he said.

“My parents came here from Guyana in 1966. This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.”
