York police to unveil details of year-long weapons investigation

York regional police will reveal more details on Friday of a year-long weapons investigation dubbed “Project Tugboat.”

Police say they have already seized guns, ammunition, controlled substances and currency after executing a series of search warrants across the GTA.

Members of the guns and gangs unit will hold a news conference at police headquarters in Aurora at 10 a.m.

Ontario Provincial Police, Durham, Toronto and Hamilton police forces, and the Canadian Border Services were all involved in the investigation.

“This is a highly-successful example of how police agencies work together where matters of public safety go beyond the border of one city or region,” York police chief Eric Jolliffe said in a statement.

“We’re very proud of our partnership with surrounding police services and we continue to work together towards the common goal of safe streets for everyone.”
