Body believed to be that of missing Whitby teacher had no signs of trauma: autopsy

Durham Regional police say an autopsy has confirmed a body found along the shoreline of Lake Ontario in Whitby on Saturday showed no signs of trauma and foul play is not suspected.

The body is believed to be that of missing Whitby teacher Jeffrey Boucher.

An exact cause of death has yet to be determined. Police say positive identification is pending further testing.

The 52 year old was reported missing by his family on Jan. 13 after Boucher, an avid runner, didn’t return home from a morning run.

The body was found by a citizen walking along the Whitby shoreline, near Thickson Road South and Crystal Beach Boulevard, on Saturday afternoon.

Durham regional police say the body is likely Boucher.

Earlier Saturday police say a second running shoe belonging Boucher was found on the shoreline near the Heydenshore Pavilion, the same area a first shoe was located almost three weeks ago. Heydenshore Pavilion is a few kilometres south of Boucher’s home.

Police say a postmortem will be conducted to determine the identity of the body and cause of death.

Since his disappearance, several ground and air searches were conducted with no signs of Boucher.

Boucher was a teacher Bowmanville High School and was married with two daughters.
