Vaughan break-in leads police on pursuit to Hamilton

A break-in at an EB Games in Vaughan early on Monday morning led police on a pursuit for 160 kilometres — all the way to Hamilton.

Police believe the suspects used a cinder block to smash through the window of the video game store at Bathurst and Centre streets, and made off with gaming systems and games.

They then headed off to Hamilton.

The pursuit began around 3 a.m., as the York police helicopter followed the Honda Civic with two suspects inside. OPP, Halton police and Hamilton police were also involved in the chase.

Police had placed a set of spikes in the road in Oakville, at Bronte Road and Dundas Street West, but the suspects were able to drive past the barrier.

According to earlier reports, the driver tried to stop for gas three times on the way to Hamilton, but each time, changed his mind and got back on the highway. Police later said gas was stolen from an Oakville station.

The two suspects ended up in the parking lot of an apartment building at Jarvis and King streets in downtown Hamilton. They left the car in the lot and ran into the building.

Police have recovered the vehicle but no arrests have been made. The car was stolen from Mississauga and stolen items were found inside, police said.

Two suspects are still at large. Police released a description of the passenger. He is white, 20-25 years old, heavy set, with dark hair. He was wearing a grey hoodie, dark jeans and gloves.
