Durham teacher charged with harassing former student

A female teacher has been charged with criminal harassment after allegedly contacting a male student numerous times against his wishes, Durham Regional police said in a release on Tuesday.

The teacher was previously employed at Pine Ridge Secondary School in Pickering, but the Durham District School Board tells CityNews she hasn’t worked there since last fall.

Police say Jennifer Kurka, 40, of Scarborough, was arrested on Friday in Pickering after she was “seen in a parked vehicle, watching the house of a former male student.”

“It culminated recently when she was parked in a vehicle outside of his home,” said Durham police spokesperson Dave Selby. “And as a result of that we laid the charge.”

Kurka was released with conditions that include not contacting the alleged victim or his family.

She’ll be back in an Oshawa courthouse on April 29.
