A 22-year-old man is dead after he was shot by police in Aurora on Saturday evening, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) confirms.

York Region police said they got a call around 9 p.m. about a man walking down State Farm Way, near Leslie and Wellington streets, with a handgun.

It’s alleged when officers arrived at the scene, the man started walking toward them and raised his gun, at which point the officers shot at him.

The man had no vital signs when he arrived at Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto, and the SIU confirmed on Sunday that he had been pronounced dead.

Seven investigators from the police watchdog agency are assigned to the case.
