Monday’s mayoral debate cancelled at U of T radio station

A mayoral debate has been cancelled at University of Toronto radio station CIUT and the station manager has apologized for the confusion.

The debate was originally scheduled for Monday night.

Candidates Rob Ford, Olivia Chow and John Tory were all invited to the debate at CIUT 89.5 FM, but Karen Stintz and David Soknacki were not.

Sarah Thomson, who did not participate in the first televised debate on City alongside the top five candidates, was invited to the CIUT event.

It appeared that Soknacki was later asked to participate.

On Saturday night, Ford, Chow and Tory all said they would not attend, due to the confusion. The three campaign teams issued a joint statement on the issue.

Station manager Ken Stowar has apologized for the confusion, telling the Toronto Star he should have cancelled the debate more promptly.
