Paid duty police officers trying to evade parking tickets: report

Toronto police are coming under fire for parking violations by officers on paid duty.

The National Post reports police Chief Bill Blair has received several complaints of parking violations by off-duty officers who displayed things like safety vests, business cards, and other items with police logos on their dashboards to ensure they don’t get tickets while parked for paid duty work, such as traffic control or providing security on film sets.

A spokesman for Toronto Police confirmed to the paper they are investigating these allegations and said police officers on paid duty are subject to the same traffic and parking laws as anyone else.

Toronto police were not immediately available for comment.
