Teen who swam Lake Ontario to take on Lake Erie

She made history two years ago as the youngest person to swim across Lake Ontario and now 16-year-old Annaleise Carr is preparing for her next challenge.

In July she will take on the 75-kilometre swim across Lake Erie.

Although Carr says other have swam across Lake Erie, she is making her task another one for the record books.

“It would be the first time doing this route and it would be the longest route across Lake Erie ever,” she told 680News.

Carr says she’s been working hard to train her body in preparation for the swim.

“I’ve been swimming 10 times a week and I run probably about three times a week and I go to the gym a couple times a week too so I have lots of training,” she explained.

She’s so far raised $250,000 for Camp Trillium – a camp which offers 54 programs to children with cancer and their families.

“I’m still not old enough to volunteer at Camp Trillium and I want to keep supporting them somehow,” she explained.

Despite her success, Carr admits that being in the spotlight is still a little scary.

“I get super nervous when I have a TV appearance or radio interview or any speaking engagement – I always get really, really, really nervous,” she said.

Carr has also written a book on what it was like to swim across Lake Ontario at the age of 14.

The teen will be signing copies of her book at the Bay and Bloor Indigo on Saturday from noon until 4 p.m.
