The OPP is reminding drivers and motorcyclists to use caution on the road after three people were killed and two others were injured in a series of crashes involving motorcycles on GTA roads.
“We need to be careful when we’re driving that we’re aware of our surroundings. These motorcycles are small and they are hard to see,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told 680News. “People need to be very cautious when they’re changing lanes and moving over. If they don’t make obvious and distinct shoulder checks they may miss a vehicle.”
A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital Saturday afternoon after an accident in Mulmur, about 40 minutes north of Orangeville.
Dufferin OPP say the driver veered off the road into a ditch and sustained serious injuries.
The driver was taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to a Toronto-area hospital.
The incident occurred on the 20th Side road of Mulmur between Airport Rd. and 5th Line.
The road was closed for several hours while police investigate.
Meanwhile, just after 8 p.m. a motorcycle and a car collided at Danforth Road and Mackinac Crescent in Scarborough, sending the driver of the motorcycle — a 24-year-old man — to hospital with serious injuries.
Police say a 36-year-old man was attempting to reverse his vehicle in to a driveway on Danforth when, for unknown reasons, the motorcycle struck the rear of the vehicle.
The motorcyclist was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
There has been no word on charges.
Earlier Saturday one man was killed when his motorcycle crashed near Teston Road and Highway 400 in Vaughan.
And two men — Damian Hanchard, 31, of Brampton and Bevon Blair, 28, of Orangeville — were killed after the motorcycle they were both riding on crashed into a car near Sandalwood Parkway and McLaughlin Road in Brampton early Saturday morning.
OPP say 28 people were killed on motorcycles last year.
