Angus residents allowed to retrieve items from damaged homes

Residents of one Angus neighbourhood that got caught in the path of this week’s tornado were allowed to enter their damaged homes for the first time on Thursday.

“I didn’t know what to grab. Just grabbed kids clothes, a couple toys,” one mother told CityNews.

Most there on Stonemount Crescent were only allowed 10-15 minutes to go inside their homes and get their prized belongings. And their second floors, which were considered too dangerous, were off limits.

Terry Manning’s neighbour on Stonemount found his two cats on Thursday. But his own tabby Nikita is still missing.

“I want my cat to be at that door to greet me one more time,” said Mannig, adding the hardest thing was not knowing.

One of the first things Kiel Nichols grabbed when he went into his home was his engagement photos.

“It was blown off the coffee table.  It was pretty much right beside it.”

He’s getting married in September and didn’t take it as a sign.

“No, no. I figure if we can make it through this we can make it through anything.”
