2nd tornado occurred near Angus on Tuesday: Environment Canada

Environment Canada has confirmed that a second tornado occurred on Tuesday near the one that touched down in Angus, near Barrie.

The weather agency said the second tornado occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the Stroud area between Barrie and Innisfil. Damage included a shed that was destroyed when it was picked up and tossed 70 metres onto a farmhouse.

 

 

The Angus tornado struck shortly before 5:30 p.m. and tore through a residential neighbourhood, damaging 100 homes and displacing nearly 300 residents.

Survey teams rated the Angus tornado an EF-2 with wind speeds of 200 to 220 km/h. The Stroud tornado was an EF-1 with maximum wind speeds of between 155 and 175 km/h.

The weather agency said that there have been four tornadoes in Ontario this season.
