A funeral will be held early next week for a seven-year-old girl who died after being hit by a minivan in Leaside.
Georgia Walsh, the daughter of Conservative Party of Canada president John Walsh, was killed by a vehicle at McRae Drive and Millwood Road, east of Bayview Avenue, just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday at St. Paul’s Anglican Church on Bloor Street East followed by a reception.
A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Humphrey Funeral Home on Bayview.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Walsh to the SickKids Foundation.
Coun. John Parker, whose ward is in the neighbourhood, has been in contact with the family.
He said some neighbours have suggested tying a pink ribbon on a tree or post on their property in the girl’s memory and added the family appreciates the gesture.
On Thursday, hundreds filled up all corners of McRae and Millwood for a vigil. Children, classmates and neighbours sat cross-legged in front of flowers.
Police say the 50-year-old driver remained at the scene and co-operated with the investigation. There has been no word on charges.
In a statement, the Walsh family asked for privacy as they “come to terms with this incredible loss,” and added “your prayers are appreciated.”
