A newly-elected MPP is trying to end a dispute between city council and the province’s liquor licencing board that’s left a number of new restaurants waiting months for a liquor license.
The board informed the city in the spring that it would no longer accept the list of requirements city council lumps onto liquor licences — including noise and building issues.
Council then voted to require new liquor license applicants to get a letter of support from their MPP — but the provincial integrity commissioner recommends they don’t write them.
It means new restaurants in the city have no way of obtaining a licence to serve alcohol.
New Etobicoke-Lakeshore MPP and former city councillor Peter Milczyn told The Globe and Mail that he thinks he can get something sorted out for next month’s council meeting.
