China’s official Xinhua News Agency is reporting 367 people have been killed in an earthquake in a southern province on Sunday.
More than 1,800 others were injured in the quake in Yunnan province.
According to state-run media, more than 40,000 homes were damaged or destroyed in in Ludian, a densely populated county.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-6.1 quake struck at 4:30 p.m. local time at a depth of 10 kilometres.
Photos on the Chinese social media site Weibo show several people apparently injured amid toppled bricks.
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said the quake was the strongest to hit Yunnan in 14 years.
